Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, performs mechanical work on medium to heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment and performs major overhauls of internal inspections for parts and wear damage, repair or replace parts, electrical, ad hydraulic. Incumbent also modifies equipment for special sue, operate diagnostic equipment, order parts, and coordinates services with outside vendors when needed.
The nature of duties may involve the continuous presence of unpleasant or irritation elements, such as considerable noise, odors, chemical fumes, traffic, dust, smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt, or grease. Duties maybe performed or outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Work hazards or potential work hazards include: the use of cranes, hoists, cutting torches, welders, drill press, grinders, drills, jacks, solvents, battery acid, moving machinery parts. Workers are exposed to battery acid, solvents, oil, diesel, gasoline, carburetor cleaner, antifreeze, grease, transmission fluids, cleaners, electric motor and brake cleaner and fire retardants. At times you may be required to work past regularly scheduled hours and/or weekends.
High school diploma, GED plus two (2) years mechanic experience that may include one (1) year vocational training in the automotive field obtained from a post-secondary institution.
Current ASE Certification preferred.
Valid Class A New Mexico CDL Driver’s license preferred.
May not have any DWI or DUI within the last five (5) years.
Pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and background investigation.
Must reside within reasonable commuting distance of the worksite.
